Holy Grail
Dario Napoli Trio
It’s all about a guitar: the HOLY GRAIL of contemporary gypsy instruments. Made in 1987 by master luthier John Monteleone alongside the creator of the iconic Selmer gypsy guitar, Mario Maccaferri. Eleven instrumental tracks composed by Dario Napoli and played by the Dario Napoli Trio. (Click "Read More" to see the rest of the story.)
Bella Vita
Dario Napoli Trio
Guitar virtuoso Dario Napoli, solid rhythm guitarist Tommaso Papini, and veteran bassist Tonino De Sensi (collectively “Modern Manouche Project”) play their hearts out in this collection of jazz and gypsy jazz instrumentals. Django Reinhardt and Wes Montgomery would be proud.
Angel Eyes
Don Stiernberg
and John Carlini
Acoustic jazz in an ensemble setting, by two titans of the stringed instrument world (Don Stiernberg, mandolin; John Carlini, guitar) , ably accompanied by Jim Cox (bass) and Phil Gratteau (drums). Overall, a laid back romantic album suitable for a quiet, cozy evening.
Gypsy Nights
Dario Napoli Trio
Eleven original instrumentals featuring the Dario Napoli Trio. Laid-back, straight-ahead, melodic music accented by Geraldo De Olveira’s tasteful Brazilian percussion. A melange of gentle Gypsy swing and contemporary jazz. Lush, romantic, and atmospheric. Pairs well with a smoky red and that special person.
Hangtown Fry
John Malcolm Penn
John Malcolm Penn is a cornucopia of talent and taste. All tracks here are Penn originals. He sang all the vocal parts and played all the instruments. Not enough for ya? He engineered the entire project too. Oh yeah, and the title track (“Hangtown Fry”) is about an omelet — recipe included in the lyrics.
Unseasonably Cool
Don Stiernberg
Acoustic jazz featuring legendary mandolinist Don Stiernberg. Other “cats”: Curt Morrison (guitar), Jim Cox (bass), Ron DeWar and Richie Fudoli (tenor sax), Russ Phillips (trombone), Alejo Poveda (percussion), Art Davis (flugelhorn), Kevin Conneley (drums), and Greg “Spats” Studebaker (muted cornet). This one swings.
Solo Flight
Steve Spurgin
One fabulous singer (Steve Spurgin), one guitar, and fourteen songs recorded live. No studio trickery. It’s like you’re in the living room with Steve, his guitar, and some his favorite songs (e.g., “Church Street Blues”, “Darcy Farrow”). Also includes Steve’s “The Light’s Still on at Trixie’s.)
Perfect Storm
Dan Crary
Legendary guitarist Dan Crary dazzles here with edgy, unique arrangements and stellar guest artists Keith Little (banjo), John Reischman (mandolin), Steve Spurgin (bass guitar and vocals, Martin Stevens (fiddle), and Don Stiernberg, (mandolin). Killer instrumentals and rock solid vocals.
Swing 220
Don Stiernberg
An all acoustic, all instrumental collection of swing classics featuring improvisational interplay among mandolin, guitar and upright bass — all played by recognized masters of their instruments. Don Stiernberg (mandolin), Jeff Jenkins (guitar), and Rusty Holloway (bass). Man, these guys swing hard!
