"John
Carlini - The Game's Afoot" - Master guitarist and composer
John Carlini, regarded as one of the architects of New Acoustic
and Dawg music, presents his working quartet, eight original
compositions ranging in style from bluegrass-bebop to ballads
and blues, (including a revisit of his standard "Mugavero"),
plus a modern view of the traditional "Wayfaring Stranger".
Banjo legend Pat Cloud appears on five of the tracks, completing
the "jazz played on bluegrass instruments" motif. Liner
notes by Tony Rice.

“Dan
Crary – Guitar.” Our
buddy Dan turns the pups loose on this one. With boosts
from such greats as Byron Berline (fiddle), Bela Fleck (banjo)
and Sam Bush (mandolin), Dan turns out clean, robust renditions
of a varietal mix of tunes. We particularly like the Crary-penned “Sweet
Laree” and “Memories of Mozart.”

Spurgin. We’re not sure which is better,
Steve’s resonant, captivating voice or the stories

“I’m Beginning
To See The Light,” Martin Taylor and David Grisman. Working
with Jim Kerwin (acoustic bass) and George March (drums), Messrs.
Taylor (guitar) and Grisman (mandolin) tear up the title track
and other jazz gems (e.g., Autumn Leaves, Cheek to Cheek, and
East of the Sun). Heck, the liner notes alone justify
the low, low cost of this recording.

“Two For Brazil Plays the Standards," In this wonderfully
recorded disc Greg and Paulinho raise the bar on tunes like
Embraceable You, Indian Summer and Angel Eyes. We think Greg
plays "more like Stan Getz than Stan Getz" and Paulinho's
Brazilian tinged vocals provide a new introduction to this collection of classics.

Love
Walked In - Just as we
are proud to have Russ as a guest on our own releases,
we're happy to share access to his three titles as a leader
with you. From traditional to mainstream, from rip-roaring
and freewheeling swing to sensitive ballads, Russ is the very
definition of jazz trombone, Chicago style. If you haven't
caught him on the air on the nationally broadcast "Riverwalk",
or seen him in All-Star aggregations at jazz fests coast to
coast, certainly any or all of these titles will show you why
the artistry of Russ Phillips is so highly regarded.
